What is MTA and how does it work?
Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas is a free multiplayer mod for GTA SA with a Lua resource system. Players join dedicated servers running custom game modes · survival, roleplay, racing · with client and server scripting beyond classic SA:MP.
Do players need GTA San Andreas and the MTA client?
Yes. Players need GTA: San Andreas on PC and the free Multi Theft Auto client from mtasa.com. They connect via the server browser or an mtasa:// address on port 22003.
Can I install custom Lua resources?
Yes. Upload any resource folder via the file manager or SFTP, start it from the console or ACL, and restart. No restrictions on community or custom scripts.
How many players can join my free MTA server?
Up to 500 players on the free tier. Resources are fixed (1 GB RAM, 50% CPU, 800 MB storage). You can also lower the max players in mtaserver.conf for a smaller private community.
